OKKAL SCB AGRICULTURE INITIATIVES

Amongst the many initiatives OSCB chiefly focused organic cultivation, farming, organic stores, fish farming, and labour bank. The bank aims at supporting the farmers to increase their productivity by providing them with the latest development in agriculture. Okkal has been transforming into a mechanized agriculture Panchayat with green and eco-friendly developments initiated by the OSCB during the last few years. Reviewing the bank's achievements in agriculture, the organization has converted large parts of barren land which comes under the Okkal panchayat into arable land. Crops like paddy, banana, and various other vegetables are grown in these lands. About 25 acres of land is engaged for cultivation. Various machines have been purchased under SMAM Scheme (Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization) for agricultural purposes to produce a good yield. To promote organic farming, grow bags of different seeds are distributed. Fish farming and Jaiva kalavara are also initiated by Bank, through this initiative; the households of the Panchayat are self-sustaining.
